Welcome To Nocturne House: The Dark Is Well Kept Here

There's a particular kind of book that doesn't leave you when you close it. You finish the last page, you set it down, and it stays—in the back of your mind at dinner, in the pause before sleep, in the way you find yourself thinking about a character as though they were someone you actually knew. Those books are rarely the safest ones. They're the ones that made you feel something, and refused to apologize for it.
That's the kind of book we exist to publish.
Welcome to Nocturne House.
Who We Are
Nocturne House is a fiction imprint under Huntsville Independent Press, built for immersive, emotionally charged storytelling across dark romance, romantasy, horror, suspense, fantasy, and speculative fiction. We came together around a simple conviction: that the stories readers return to again and again are the atmospheric ones, the character-driven ones—sharp with tension and unafraid of emotional consequence.
We are not chasing trends for their own sake. We're interested in the emotional core underneath the trend; the reason a certain story lands so hard in the first place. A book can be commercial and still be true. It can be entertaining and still leave a mark. Those two things were never in opposition, and we built this imprint on the space where they meet.
As part of Huntsville Independent Press, we pair a distinct editorial identity with the infrastructure and reputation of an established independent publisher. That combination means an author working with us gets a team that understands their genre, backed by a house that knows how to actually get a book made and into readers' hands.
What We Believe
We believe fiction should leave an impression—romantic, haunting, unsettling, or devastating, but never forgettable.
We're drawn to atmosphere. To obsession and vulnerability. To tension and intimacy, fear and longing, moral complexity. We love a compelling voice, immersive prose, and strong character dynamics. Give us the story that risks something. Give us the one with teeth and a heartbeat.
We also believe in the author. Publishing works best as a relationship, not a transaction, and our goal is to build lasting ones, the kind where a writer's second book is better than their first because someone in their corner helped them get there. This is only the beginning of Nocturne House, and the writers we take on now are the ones we'll grow alongside.
If This Sounds Like Your Book
Here's the part we're genuinely excited about: we're actively reading your submissions.
If you write the kind of fiction we've been describing, the immersive, emotionally charged, hard-to-shake kind, we'd love to see it. You don't need an agent, a track record, or a connection on the inside. We simply value good storytelling, however it lands in our hands.
Submitting is simple. Head to our Submit Your Book page, where you can send a manuscript directly through the form—just your name, email, home state, and your file. If your manuscript is larger than 15MB, or you'd like to send additional materials, email it to us at editor@nocturnehouse.co instead.
A few things worth knowing before you hit send:
Genre fit matters more than polish. We publish dark romance, romantasy, horror, suspense, fantasy, and speculative fiction. If your book lives in that world—or the shadowy borderlands between them—you're in the right place.
Lead with voice. More than anything, we're looking for a voice we can't put down and characters we can't stop thinking about. Let those carry the opening pages.
Send us the real thing. You don't have to wait until it's flawless. We're an editorial house, and shaping strong work is what we do—but send us a story you believe in, one that's finished and fully itself. Should we work together, we'll take it from there, with you alongside us every step of the way.
We read every submission that comes to us, because somewhere in that inbox is a book that's going to keep someone up until 3 a.m., unable to stop. We'd like to be the ones who publish it.
Nocturne House was founded for the emotional, the gritty, and the dark. If that's what you've written, we're waiting to hear from you. Trust us, the dark is well kept here.
